ISLAMABAD: The death toll from floods and heavy rains across the country has risen to 335, while the Pakistan Army has intensified relief operations in the affected areas.
According to independent reports, 335 people have lost their lives and 160 others have been injured so far. The victims include 275 men, 29 women, and 21 children. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that 336 houses were damaged, with 106 destroyed.
The worst-hit district was Buner, where 209 deaths have been reported. Fatalities have also been recorded in Swat, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram. Officials have also warned of more heavy rains until August 19.
On the instructions of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the army is actively distributing relief goods in flood-hit areas. Despite challenging weather conditions, army helicopters are conducting relief operations in Buner, Shangla, and Swat.
Supplies include flour, rice, lentils, milk powder, salt, tea, and cooking oil. Helicopters are also being used to evacuate the injured, women, and children from remote areas to safer locations.
Meanwhile, medical camps have been set up in the affected areas where doctors are providing treatment and distributing free medicines.
The Pakistan Army has said its mission to help flood victims will continue until full rehabilitation is achieved.
