Chicken meat prices in Lahore and other cities across Punjab have seen a sharp rise, with rates exceeding Rs 650 per kilogram in the provincial capital on Monday.
According to the official rate list, chicken meat is priced at around Rs 594 per kilogram, but these rates set by the district government are not being followed.
The situation in Lahore and other cities in Punjab is severe, but it is even worse in Peshawar and other cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
This price hike is attributed to increased demand and higher consumption of other meats. Local traders report that the price of live chicken meat has now reached Rs 490 per kilogram, with broiler chicken meat prices recently increasing by Rs 100 per kilogram.
The significant rise in meat prices is also driven by higher costs of feed, chicks, and electricity, which have substantially impacted the overall cost of poultry farming. Mutton and beef prices have already become unaffordable for salaried individuals due to soaring inflation.

Poultry market rates show that chicken prices have surged by Rs 37 per kilogram in just one day, bringing the new price to Rs 421 per kilogram.
The traders' association has raised concerns that chicken, much like beef and mutton, is becoming increasingly unaffordable for the average person. They criticized the recent budget for its unfair taxation and for ignoring their recommendations.
This situation highlights the growing financial strain on citizens as the cost of living continues to rise rapidly following the new budget.
