Occupied Kashmir has been battered by relentless rainfall for the past week, triggering flash floods, landslides, and cloudbursts that have claimed over 110 lives and displaced thousands of people from their homes.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the regions most severely affected include Jammu, Samba, Reasi, Doda, and Kishtwar districts.
Rivers and streams have risen to dangerously high levels, prompting the evacuation of over 12,000 people to safer locations. Communication with at least 50 villages has been cut off, and all educational institutions have been closed until August 31.
On Thursday, four more people were swept away by flash floods in Jammu, where landslides have caused the most destruction. In one of the worst incidents, 34 people lost their lives after being buried under debris. At least 20 injured victims are currently being treated in hospitals, while rescue teams continue clearing rubble in affected areas.
The floods have severely disrupted transportation and communication networks. Dozens of roads have been blocked due to landslides, and 58 trains have been cancelled as a result of the damage.
Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious as the situation remains critical.
