Smog and fog are expected to persist in Lahore and across the plains of Punjab on Thursday night, Friday, and Saturday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD reported that continental air is dominating most parts of Pakistan, bringing cold and dry weather to Lahore and several districts of Punjab during this period.
Lahore’s minimum temperature is predicted to range between 11-13°C on Friday and Saturday. Smog will also affect areas including Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Hafizabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Fog of varying intensity is expected during the morning and nighttime hours in the plains.
Over the past 24 hours, smog and fog continued to impact Lahore and many districts in Punjab. As of 7:26 pm, data from IQAir ranked Lahore as the third most polluted city in the world with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 220. Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and Delhi, India, topped the list with an AQI of 226.
Cold and dry weather was observed in Lahore and most Punjab districts. Murree recorded the lowest temperature at 05°C, with evening relative humidity at 58%. In Lahore, the minimum temperature was recorded at 12°C, and the evening relative humidity stood at 50%.
