GILGIT: Pakistani mountaineer Shah Daulat has successfully summited Gasherbrum I — standing at an elevation of 8,080 meters — without the use of supplemental oxygen.
Hailing from Gilgit, Shah Daulat reached the summit of the world’s 11th highest peak on Sunday at 11:00 AM, marking a significant achievement in Pakistani mountaineering.
After conquering Gasherbrum I, Shah Daulat is now set to begin his ascent of Broad Peak.
It is worth mentioning that Shah Daulat has previously summited K2, Nanga Parbat, and Gasherbrum II, solidifying his reputation as one of Pakistan’s accomplished high-altitude climbers.
Earlier, A Pakistani mountaineer lost his life after being caught in an avalanche during an expedition on K2, the world’s second-highest peak.
According to Shigar Deputy Commissioner Arif Hussain, four climbers were struck by an avalanche during the climb. While three foreign mountaineers were safely rescued, the Pakistani climber could not survive.
DC Arif Hussain added that the rescued climbers sustained minor injuries and were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
The deceased Pakistani climber has been identified as Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain. His body will be transported to Skardu today.
Deputy Commissioner Arif Hussain stated that Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain belonged to Sadpara village. His burial will take place in his native Sadpara village today.
