Islamabad, Pakistan weather update: Heavy rain, isolated hailstorm expected!

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather warning for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several regions across Pakistan, forecasting widespread rain, wind, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms. These weather conditions are expected to persist from Thursday night through Friday and Saturday.

According to the PMD, a westerly wave is prevailing over western parts of Pakistan, extending its influence to most upper and central parts of the country by Friday. This weather system is likely to bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms to the twin cities, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Isolated hailstorms are also expected in some areas, with heavy rainfall predicted in north-eastern Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The PMD further warns of potential flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Balochistan and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to moderate to heavy rainfall. Similarly, landslides are anticipated in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan during the specified period.

Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning pose risks to human lives and infrastructure such as standing crops, electric poles, and solar panels. Residents are advised to take precautions and stay updated with weather alerts.

Forecasted Maximum Temperatures:

• Islamabad: 28-30 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday
• Rawalpindi: 30-32 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday

During the last 24 hours, dry weather predominated in most parts of the country, with hot conditions in southern regions. However, isolated rain-thunderstorms occurred in northwest Balochistan and Parachinar.

• Balochistan: Nokkundi 02mm, Quetta 01mm

Nawabshah registered as the hottest place in the country with a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and a morning relative humidity of 72 percent. In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was 33 degrees Celsius, with an evening relative humidity of 39 percent. Similarly, in Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius, with an evening relative humidity of 43 percent.
