Film director Arshad Mirza passes away at 73

Pakistani director, Muhammad Arshad Mirza, a renowned name in the film industry, passed away this week at the age of 73 in New Jersey, United States. According to his son, Farhan Mirza, Arshad Mirza died of respiratory failure. The funeral prayer was held at the Muslim Center of Middlesex County in Piscataway, New Jersey on Saturday, 17th August. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton. The late Muhammad Arshad Mirza leaves behind his widow, Safia, and his two sons, Rizwan and Farhan Mirza, and his grandchildren.

Arshad Mirza was born in Lahore, Pakistan in 1953; however, he moved to the United States in 1984. As a director active in the late 20th century, Mirza directed and produced films with cinematic success such as Ranga Daku, Baghi Te Ferengi, Bukka Rath, Jat Surma, and Veryam.

‎At Mirza's demise, film director Maqbool Ahmad also expressed his grief in a Facebook post, ''With profound grief, I inform you that my dear friend and mentor Arshad Mirza passed away on August 16, 2024, in New Jersey, USA. I started my film career as his assistant in 1975.  He was the senior assistant of Mr. Ahmed Bashir in the 1967 movie “Neela Parbat”. He was also a film editor and had assisted reputed film editor Mr. Aman Mirza for many films.'' Maqbool Ahmad further prayed for the departed soul in the same post, ''He has gone to heaven but has left unforgettable memories. May God bless his soul. Aameen.”
