The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning stating that heatwaves are expected to develop in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other parts of Pakistan starting from May 21.
During this period, day temperatures are projected to be 04 to 06°C higher than normal levels in Sindh and Punjab from May 21 to May 23, and 06 to 08°C higher from May 23 to May 27. Similarly, day temperatures are expected to be 04 to 06°C above normal in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan from May 21 to May 27.
The current synoptic situation indicates the prevalence of continental air over most parts of Pakistan, leading to mainly hot and dry weather conditions in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and across the country on Monday night, Tuesday, and Wednesday. However, isolated areas in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir may experience partly cloudy weather with rain, wind, or thunderstorms on Monday night.
In Islamabad, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 39-41°C on Tuesday and 40-42°C on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 37-39°C on Monday and 39-41°C on Tuesday.
In the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country, with very hot conditions in southern and central areas. Isolated rain and thunderstorms occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Key temperature and weather readings include Sibi as the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 48°C, while Islamabad and Rawalpindi recorded maximum temperatures of 41°C and 39°C, respectively. Relative humidity levels were also recorded in the evening, with Islamabad at 25% and Rawalpindi at 18%.
