According to a warning issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday, Pakistan is set to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms until April 29.
The NDMA has instructed Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), and relevant departments to prepare in advance. The authority emphasized the importance of positioning machinery and ensuring the presence of staff in vulnerable areas.
Local departments are urged to inform residents living near rivers and streams about potential flooding and assist in evacuations as needed. Citizens are advised to take precautions such as avoiding electric poles and unstable structures, as well as refraining from travel through flooded areas.
Weather forecasts predict moderate to severe weather conditions from April 17 to 29, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms. Various regions of Pakistan will be affected at different times, with Balochistan impacted first from April 17 to 19, followed by Punjab and Sindh from April 18 to 19.
The forecast indicates a less severe weather system from April 23 to 24, affecting Balochistan and upper Punjab primarily.
However, a stronger weather system is expected from April 25 to 29, with Upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experiencing the most severe effects. There's also a risk of flash floods in vulnerable areas such as Khuzdar, Ziarat, Zhob, and others, particularly in southern and western Balochistan.
