A decision has been made to launch the Pakistan’s first high-speed bullet train between Lahore and Rawalpindi.
During a recent meeting led by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, it was announced that work is starting on a new bullet train project between Lahore and Rawalpindi. A special working group, which includes Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, the Chairman of Pakistan Railways, and other officials, has been set up to prepare a feasibility study and project timeline.
Maryam Aurangzeb mentioned that the group's recommendations will be presented to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz next week. She emphasized that the bullet train project is part of fulfilling promises made to the public and is aimed at providing fast, affordable, and comfortable travel to the people of Punjab.
In another important update, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also reviewed the progress of Pakistan’s first provincial airline, Air Punjab. She officially approved its launch, with plans to initially focus on domestic flights. To start operations quickly, four Airbus planes will be leased. If the airline performs well in its first year, it plans to expand internationally, aiming to set high standards for service quality and to contribute to Pakistan’s aviation sector growth.
During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz also approved the Lahore-Rawalpindi bullet train project, which is likely to reduce travel time between the two cities to approximately two-and-a-half hours.
