RAWALPINDI: Seven persons, including two security forces personnel and five civilians, among them children, were martyred in a terrorist attack on the Rural Health Center (RHC) in the Kirri Shamozai area of Dera Ismail Khan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.
The military's media wing reported that the civilians who died in the attack included RHC staff members, such as two lady health workers and a watchman, as well as two minors.
"During the night between July 15 and 16, terrorists launched a cowardly attack on the Rural Health Center (RHC) in Kirri Shamozai, Dera Ismail Khan District, indiscriminately firing on RHC staff," the ISPR stated.
"Security forces in the vicinity immediately mobilized for a clearance operation at the RHC. In the ensuing fire exchange, our troops effectively engaged the terrorists, resulting in three terrorists being killed."
The security personnel martyred during the intense exchange of fire were identified as Naib Subedar Muhammad Farooq, 44, and Sepoy Muhammad Javed Iqbal, 23.
The military's media wing mentioned that sanitization of the area was being conducted to eliminate any remaining terrorists.
"The perpetrators of this heinous and cowardly act targeting innocent civilians, especially women and children, will be brought to justice," the ISPR added.
This incident marks the second terrorist attack within 24 hours, following the martyrdom of eight soldiers who thwarted a terrorist infiltration into Bannu Cantonment early on July 15.
