The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Sukkur, led by Judge Abdul Rehman Qazi, has announced its verdict in the murder case of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Dr. Khalid Mehmood Soomro.
All six accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and terrorism charges. Additionally, they received seven years of imprisonment for illegal possession of weapons and were fined heavily.
The convicted individuals, Hanif Bhutto, Mushtaq Mehr, Altaf Jamali, Latif Jamali, Sarang Totani, and Darya Khan Jamali, have been in Sukkur Central Jail since 2014.
JUI leader Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, stating, “The punishment should have been death for the proven crime. We will approach the High Court for justice.”
He further added, “This is incomplete justice. We will continue our peaceful struggle to ensure justice and maintain peace.”
The case highlights ongoing legal efforts to address serious crimes, while differing opinions on justice indicate further legal proceedings may follow.
