PESHAWAR: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the Ramadan moon has been sighted and the holy month will commence on Tuesday (tomorrow).
The announcement came after a gathering of both the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees convened in Peshawar to sight the crescent of the Islamic month.
Ramadan crescent was first spotted in Lahore followed by Peshawar.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad chaired the meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal committee in Peshawar, while the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) zonal moon-sighting committee also convened at the same location.
Similar meetings of zonal committees were simultaneously held in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Quetta.
Meanwhile, Ramadan has already commenced in various parts of the globe, including the Middle East and Europe.
Several countries, such as Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei, have officially declared March 12 as the beginning of Ramadan.
Oman has also confirmed March 12 as the start of Ramadan, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Sunday evening.
Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, the month of fasting, is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
Throughout the fasting period, Muslims are required to refrain from eating, drinking, gossiping, and cursing, while encouraged to engage in meditative acts like prayers, Quranic reading, and charitable deeds.
