LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured an additional National Assembly seat after a recount of votes from 75 polling stations in NA-81 Gujranwala.

Azhar Qayyum, representing the PML-N, requested a recount of the ballots, which was granted by the Returning Officer (RO). Following the recount, Azhar Qayyum defeated independent candidate Bilal Aijaz, supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), by a margin of 3197 votes. Azhar Qayyum garnered 110,057 votes, while Bilal Aijaz received 106,860 votes.

Initially, Bilal Aijaz was declared the winner with 117,717 votes, while the PML-N candidate trailed as the runner-up with 109,926 votes. Dissatisfied with the outcome, Azhar Qayyum approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and requested a vote recount.

In another instance on February 26, the PML-N secured a National Assembly seat following a vote recount in NA-154 Lodhran.

Upon PML-N Abdul Rahman Kanju's request, the Returning Officer (RO) ordered a recount of votes. After the recount, Abdul Rahman Kanju emerged victorious with a lead of 7301 votes over independent candidate Rana Faraz Noon.

The revised results showed Abdul Rahman Kanju obtaining 127,984 votes, while Rana Faraz Noon received 120,683 votes.
