Pakistan and India exchanged lists of prisoners held in each other’s custody on Wednesday through diplomatic channels.

The Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson stated that Pakistan provided a list of 266 Indian prisoners (comprising 49 civilians and 217 fishermen) to an Indian High Commission representative in Islamabad.

Simultaneously, India shared a list of 462 Pakistani prisoners (381 civilians and 81 fishermen) with an officer from Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.

This exchange was conducted as part of the Consular Access Agreement of 2008, which mandates both countries to exchange such lists biannually on January 1 and July 1.

Pakistan urged India to release and repatriate 108 Pakistani nationals (52 civilians and 56 fishermen) who have completed their sentences and whose nationalities have been verified.

Additionally, India was requested to ensure the safety and well-being of all Pakistani prisoners awaiting their release and return.

Pakistan also renewed its request for consular access to 38 missing defense personnel from the 1965 and 1971 wars.
