RAWALPINDI: An accountability court in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, in a case involving £190 million. The case was presided over by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana, who issued the arrest warrants.
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan also appeared before the court in connection with the same case.
It is worth noting that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously granted bail to both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference.
The bail decision was made by a two-member bench, including IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, following the conclusion of arguments. The court ordered Khan’s release upon submission of a Rs1 million surety bond.
In a related development, Bushra Bibi released a video message encouraging PTI supporters to join the party’s protest on November 24, described as a “final or do-or-die” demonstration against the government.
She alleged that a propaganda campaign targeting her and her husband began after their visit to Madinah in Saudi Arabia, with accusations including her character assassination and claims that Imran Khan was a "Jewish agent."
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been investigating allegations that Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others unlawfully benefited from the transfer of hundreds of kanals of land under the Al-Qadir University Trust.
The alleged misconduct reportedly caused a loss of £190 million to the national treasury. According to the charges, the accused adjusted Rs50 billion—equivalent to £190 million at the time—transferred by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government.
The NAB has filed a corruption reference against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and seven others in connection with this matter. The Al-Qadir University Trust was formally registered by the PTI chief on December 26, 2019.
