Punjab Traffic Challan Tax: Further Charges on Online Payments!

Recently, the Punjab government has introduced a tax on online payments for traffic challans across Lahore and other cities in the province. Effective immediately, an additional Rs 15 will be charged as tax when paying traffic fines through online platforms, according to reports from Lahore news sources.

This new tax means that if a traffic ticket amounts to Rs500 due to a violation, the total payable through the online app will now be Rs515. Although this measure aims to streamline payment processes, the traffic department has not officially commented on it yet.

Traffic challans are issued by traffic police officers to individuals violating traffic rules, covering offenses such as riding motorcycles without helmets, fined at Rs2,000, or driving vehicles on the wrong side of the road, also incurring a Rs2,000 penalty.

Typically, when a traffic violation occurs, the officer issues a ticket detailing the offense and fine amount. Timely payment usually involves a single payment, but delays can lead to the fine doubling.
