The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has imposed a ban on 46 mobile applications following recommendations from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

According to an NCCIA spokesperson, these apps were illegally extorting billions of rupees from the public. The banned platforms include unregulated forex trading apps, gambling apps, and services collecting users’ personal data and SIM information without authorization.

Officials revealed that several apps misused citizens’ personal information, while gambling and “get-rich-quick” schemes on these platforms were luring young people into financial traps.

The PTA has warned that strict action may follow against similar social media and online platforms engaged in unlawful practices.
