PMSA rescues 9 crew members of Indian ship

Karachi: The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has successfully rescued nine crew members of the Indian cargo dhow -Tajdare Haram.

PMSA spokesperson said that on December 26, water was reported to have entered the Indian cargo. The Indian ship was about 120 miles south of Karachi.

Upon receiving the distress alert from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai, PMSA immediately launched a coordinated rescue effort, it said.

The PMSA deployed an aircraft and directed nearby merchant vessels and PMSA ships to reach at the scene of the incident.

The PMSA aircraft successfully located the survivors and facilitated the Indian Coast Guard vessel operating in nearby Indian waters for subsequent recovery.

This marks the second successful operation by PMSA in the past three weeks. On December 4, the PMSA rescued 12 Indian crew members from the MSV Pirani Pir in a similar operation.

The agency remains committed to maritime safety and upholding international obligations under the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention.

Earlier, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf visited the Headquarters of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency and appreciated for it’s effective law enforcement at sea.

Upon arrival, the Naval Chief was presented Guard of Honour by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) contingent.

The Admiral was briefed on Maritime Security Operations, carried out by Pakistan Maritime Security Agency to uphold regulations and rule-based order at sea and safeguard the maritime interests of the country.
