ISLAMABAD: More than 100 people, including 53 children, have lost their lives in various rain-related incidents during the ongoing monsoon spell across Pakistan.
According to a foreign news agency citing official figures, 111 fatalities were recorded between June 26 and July 14 due to monsoon rains. The data reveals that the highest number of deaths occurred due to electrocution, with Punjab province witnessing the most casualties overall.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rains and flash floods remain a serious threat in several regions.
On the other hand, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab, 44 people have been killed and 134 injured due to monsoon rains in Punjab this year.
The breakdown of casualties is as follows: 27 people died due to the collapse of dilapidated houses, 5 lost their lives after being struck by lightning, 4 died due to electrocution and 8 drowned while bathing during rainfall.
PDMA has urged citizens to stay cautious during heavy rains and avoid risky areas, particularly near weak structures and water bodies.
