Haji Mahadi, the renowned headman of Askole, was famous for his hospitality and kindness in the region of Union Council (UC) Braldo, Shigar Gilgit Baltistan.
The masses of the area claimed that his unique leadership and charismatic personality made him well-known in the area.
However, the respect he earned is exemplary; it was observed that no Raja and Wazir got as much respect as HaJi Mahdi has gotten in such a short period of time.
The sources further added that whenever Haji Mahdi visited anywhere in Baltistan, thousands of people gathered and welcomed him, citing his best leadership qualities. He always voiced for marginalized porters; this was the reason he was the most popular in the area of GB.
The people of the area lauded his contribution to bringing schools, transportation, and tourism to the area, and people are still benefiting from his service.
It should be noted that Haji Mahadi Askole took headman ship from his father in the 1960s and looked after and helped all the climbers coming through Askole until his death in 1999.
Added to that, he has a number of sons and daughters living in different parts of Pakistan. Habib Asko is the youngest son among all, and he is looking after all tourism businesses in Baltistan along with his elder brothers Sajjad and Hussain Asko.
On the other hand, Muhammad Iqbal Asko, the son of the legendary headman of Asklole, is a renowned entrepreneur based in Islamabad, Pakistan, who is running an adventure tourism company named Shipton Trek & Tours Pakistan.
Like Haji Mahdi, he was also well known among the mountaineers and masses and also have had a very high aim for the good will of the area.
