The Supreme Court (SC) constituted a five-member larger bench on Monday to form a new joint investigation team to probe the Model Town tragedy.
In the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, a two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan resumed hearing of the case.
In June 2014, clashes between the Punjab Police and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in Lahore killed 14 and injured at least 85 others.
The new bench will comprise Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Nisar and representatives from all the provinces and will begin hearing the case from December 5.
PAT chief Tahirul Qadri had earlier requested formation of a new JIT while citing the indictment of former IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) hearing the case.
