- Actor Vijay launches "Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam" for 2026 Tamil Nadu polls.
- Party skips Lok Sabha, stays independent.
- Vijay balances films with public service in politics.
Vijay, a prominent figure in Tamil cinema, has been nurturing political ambitions for over a decade. His foray into politics aligns with the tradition of stars transitioning from the silver screen to the political stage, reminiscent of the late MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa.
The newly formed party will be named "Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam," reflecting its commitment to achieving victory for Tamil Nadu. Vijay clarified that the party would not contest in Lok Sabha elections and would remain independent, refraining from supporting any other political party. This decision was reached during the party's general council and executive council meetings.
"I have decided to complete the film I have already committed to, without affecting the party work and completely involve myself in the politics of public service. I consider this as my gratitude towards the people of Tamil Nadu," Vijay stated, as quoted by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The actor's announcement has sparked spontaneous celebrations among his fans across the state. Vijay, known not only for his acting prowess but also for his involvement in various charitable initiatives through fan clubs, has organized programs honoring academic achievers and advocating for the importance of education.
With a focus on public service, the actor-turned-politician has already demonstrated his commitment to uplifting the community through initiatives such as food distribution, educational scholarships, and libraries. Vijay's entry into politics adds a new dimension to Tamil Nadu's political landscape, and his party aims to create a positive impact in the upcoming elections.
