Seoul: A court in South Korea has issued an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk Yeol amid ongoing investigations related to his attempt to impose martial law last year.

The Seoul Central District Court cited concerns that Yoon might attempt to obstruct justice or destroy evidence.

Senior Judge Nam Se-jin ordered Yoon's arrest, citing the risk of evidence tampering. Yoon was detained at Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang following the hearing, where he and his legal team denied all allegations.

Yoon Suk Yeol, who was impeached and suspended from office in April over his controversial actions in December, was accused of attempting to undermine civilian governance by deploying armed soldiers to parliament during a political crisis.

This marks the second arrest warrant issued against Yoon. The first occurred in January while he was still president; however, the court later approved his request to cancel that arrest, leading to his release in March.

Yoon's legal team argued that he has been cooperative and expressed his willingness to participate in future questioning, which previously led courts to dismiss earlier warrants.
