RAHIM YAR KHAN: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secured a victory in the NA-171 by-election, leading by more than 50,000 votes according to unofficial results from all 301 polling stations.

PPP’s Makhdoom Tahir Rasheed-ud-din won the seat with 116,429 votes, while Hassan Mustafa of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) finished second with 58,251 votes.

The by-election was held following the death of PTI's MNA Mumtaz Mustafa, whose seat became vacant. Mustafa had originally won the seat as a PTI-backed independent candidate in the February 8 general elections, securing 103,832 votes. At the time, an independent candidate took second place with 56,028 votes, and PPP's Makhdoom Tahir Rasheed-ud-din came third with 49,018 votes.

Previously, on September 10, PTI lost another seat won in the February 8 elections after a recount. PTI’s Sarbuland Khan lost to PPP’s Asif Moosa in the Sindh Assembly constituency PS-112 following a recount by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The revised results showed Asif Moosa winning with 11,724 votes, while Sarbuland Khan secured 9,943 votes. Initially, Sarbuland Khan had been declared the winner with 16,287 votes, while Moosa had 10,784 votes.
