Following the recent rainfall across the country, the National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued a warning about an increased risk of dengue.
In its advisory, the NIH highlighted that dengue spreads rapidly in warm and humid conditions, raising concerns about a potential surge in cases across Punjab, Balochistan, and northern Pakistan.
The institute emphasized the urgency of preventive measures, as stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
According to NIH data, Pakistan recorded 28,427 dengue cases in 2024. In response, hospitals have been instructed to strengthen their laboratory facilities for efficient dengue diagnosis.
The advisory strongly recommended using only paracetamol for fever management and advised the public to adopt protective measures such as mosquito nets, repellents, and appropriate clothing.
Additionally, the NIH has directed authorities to take immediate action, including fumigation and spraying, to curb the outbreak.
