The Higher Education Department has taken disciplinary action against hundreds of teachers for serious marking errors in Punjab’s Matric and Intermediate exams, raising concerns about the reliability of results across the province.

Local media reported that officials have forwarded the names of the teachers involved to the School Education Department for further action. This step follows reports of glaring mistakes in the marking of Matric and Intermediate exams, which directly affect thousands of students.

Officials summoned the teachers accused of Matric and Intermediate marking errors to appear before an inquiry committee on July 9 and present their defense. However, many of them failed to attend, according to reports.

In response, the Directorate of Public Instruction (Elementary), Punjab, has re-summoned the teachers to appear on July 14. Officials have strictly instructed them to submit written explanations and attend the inquiry hearings without fail.

The Education Department has warned that it will impose serious penalties on those found guilty, including a ban on all future paper marking responsibilities. Officials stated that individual hearings will determine the severity of the disciplinary actions.

Officials launched this crackdown to safeguard the integrity of the examination process and maintain trust in Punjab’s academic system. As the inquiries move forward, the case underscores the critical importance of ensuring accuracy and accountability in marking Matric and Intermediate exams.
