ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted an extension for candidates to withdraw their nominations in preparation for the upcoming general elections, initially scheduled for Feb. 8.
Although the ECP had initially set the withdrawal deadline for candidates at 5 pm on Jan. 12, it later extended the timeframe by a few hours.
In a statement, the ECP mentioned, "To facilitate political parties and candidates, the election commission has extended the time for withdrawal of nomination papers." Consequently, candidates now have until 9 pm on the same day to withdraw their nominations.

The initial deadline for filing nominations with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was Dec. 24, resulting in 28,626 candidates submitting their nominations for both national and provincial assembly elections.
The scrutiny of nominations took place until Dec. 30, and the period for receiving appeals from candidates extended until Jan. 3, with finalization by Jan. 10.
In a separate development, the ECP has taken action by delisting thirteen political parties for their failure to conduct intra-party polls. This decision was announced in Islamabad today, following a reserved judgment on the matter of intra-party polls for various political parties.
