ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto criticized the opposition lawmakers for their disruptive behavior during President Asif Ali Zardari’s parliamentary address, calling them monkeys from the jungle.
Speaking to reporters, Bilawal Bhutto described the opposition's use of offensive language during the joint session as behavior unbecoming of a parliamentary setting.
Bilawal highlighted President Zardari's significant seventh address to parliament as head of state, contrasting it with the opposition's disruptive conduct, which he termed as historic in its own negative way. He emphasized that his party, the PPP, has a legacy of confronting dictators and is not intimidated by unruly behavior.
The PPP leader's comments followed disturbances caused by lawmakers from the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) during the first joint parliamentary sitting since the general elections on February 8.
In response to the incident, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq took disciplinary action by suspending the membership of two MNAs, Jamshed Dasti and Muhammad Iqbal, due to their use of abusive language and threatening behavior towards the speaker's dais. Bilawal Bhutto expressed support for the speaker's decision, emphasizing the importance of establishing standards for parliamentary conduct.
