A Chinese citizen was killed, and four others were injured in an attack near the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, according to China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday.
The attack occurred on November 18 at a private Chinese company’s camp located on the Tajikistan side of the border. China strongly condemned the attack, expressed condolences to the victims' families, and sympathized with the injured.
China’s embassy in Tajikistan has sent a team to the site to support the injured and manage the aftermath. The Chinese ambassador has also urged Tajik authorities to investigate the incident quickly.
The attacker’s identity and motive remain unknown. Tajikistan, which shares a 1,350-kilometer border with Afghanistan, considers the Taliban a terrorist group.
Chinese companies, particularly those involved in mining, are active in Central Asia, including Tajikistan. The foreign ministry warned Chinese citizens and businesses in the border area to prioritize their safety.
