On Saturday, July 27, the UAE Cybersecurity Council announced the development of three pivotal policies aimed at strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity framework.

These policies, set to be finalized by the end of 2024, focus on 'cloud computing and data security,' 'Internet of Things (IoT) security,' and 'cybersecurity operations centres.'

Additionally, the executive regulations for the 'encryption' law, which will establish standards for data transmission security in line with quantum systems, are expected to be introduced before the end of this year, according to Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al-Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cybersecurity Council.

These initiatives are designed to bolster the UAE's reputation as a global hub for advanced technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

The move follows an increase in malicious cyberattacks targeting key sectors, especially finance, with the intent to undermine national security or extort financial information.

Dr. Al-Kuwaiti emphasized that the UAE's cybersecurity infrastructure is robust, continually countering attacks, identifying perpetrators, and adhering to international standards.

The country's digital transformation spans crucial sectors such as health, energy, education, and aviation, increasing the need for sophisticated cybersecurity measures to protect against potential threats.

This development is particularly significant as AI solutions are increasingly used to identify vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.

Dr. Al-Kuwaiti highlighted that the UAE’s cybersecurity policies serve as a model for other nations, emphasizing the protection of institutions against threats that could lead to data breaches, identity theft, intellectual property theft, and disruptions to essential infrastructure and security records.
