PESHAWAR: Heavy rains and flooding have severely damaged the power infrastructure in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affecting electricity supply to thousands of consumers.
Power authorities confirmed that, 292 transformers were damaged in Swat, Shangla, and Buner districts, while 49 feeders also sustained flood-related damage.
The report stated that electricity has been restored to 212,000 consumers, but around 87,000 households remain without power as repair work continues.
Authorities added that teams are working to restore the remaining supply, though access to affected areas remains challenging due to floodwaters and damaged roads.
The report states that 33 feeders have been completely restored and 9 partial restoration in Peshawar, while seven feeders remain out of order, leaving thousands without electricity.
Meanwhile, 63 % of Swat, 56 of Shangla and 46 % of consumers in Buner were deprived electricity while 10 technical teams, 87 field personnel are busy in maintenance works, 481 pools and 55 feeders are being repaired, while electricity of the major hospitals of Buner and Swat have been restored.
The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) reported financial losses amounting to ₨164.27 million, of which ₨53.64 million were incurred in Swat alone.
