Students received positive news as the Punjab government reinstated the free laptop scheme in Budget 2024-25. Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman disclosed this during the budget presentation for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the provincial assembly. He stated that the government plans to reintroduce the laptop scheme to provide students with access to modern technologies.

Laptops will be procured starting from the next fiscal year for distribution among students. Furthermore, the provincial government has allocated Rs69.74 billion for education.

Free Laptop Scheme 2024

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has endorsed a new laptop scheme for students during a meeting centered on higher education sector reforms. The approval was granted as part of discussions on improving higher education, implementing the laptop scheme, and facilitating transportation for female students.

Maryam Nawaz, during the meeting, authorized the laptop scheme, announcing the reintroduction of modern laptops to students in Punjab after a seven-year gap. Additionally, the province will distribute 20,000 electric bikes to students.

Laptop for All

Pakistan’s federal government is introducing the ‘Laptop for All’ scheme for students as part of the Youth Initiative. This scheme aims to provide laptops to students through interest-free bank loans.

Despite financial challenges and IMF conditions, the government plans to include the scheme in the upcoming fiscal budget.

The government explained that laptops were not distributed to students earlier due to the interim government and the limited time available for the new government to prepare the budget.
