4 Adiala Jail officials dismissed over prisoner’s death

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government dismissed 4 officials including Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram and Assistant Superintendent Riaz Khan of Adiala Jail Rawalpindi.

Punjab Home Department has also issued a notification for the dismissal of the officers and personnel of Adiala Jail.

It is said in the statement that the officials were dismissed after being found guilty in the investigation of the murder of the prisoner. The inquiry was underway on in the mental patients cell of Adiala Jail on February 29. The IG Prisons Punjab has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

According to the notification, 7 employees, including Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, were found guilty in the inquiry, and 4 of the 7 employees were recommended for dismissal.

It should be remembered that for some time other prison officers and officials including former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram were detained in Adiala Jail on the charge of facilitating Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf founder but later he was released.
