Karachi Electric (KE) has proposed a refund of Rs0.27 per unit to its consumers in their March 2025 electricity bills. The move is aimed at compensating for extra charges collected in October under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA).
In its petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), KE revealed that a total of Rs461 million would be refunded to Karachi’s power consumers.
This follows a similar offer made earlier, where KE promised a Rs0.16 per unit refund in February 2025 bills.
The proposal will be reviewed during a public hearing scheduled for December 5, 2024. Nepra will assess whether the FCA was implemented in line with regulatory guidelines, if KE followed the merit order for power generation, and whether the electricity was generated through its own plants or purchased from external sources.
The refunds highlight KE’s efforts to address consumer concerns while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Nepra's decision on the matter will determine whether the refunds will proceed as planned.
