- Gold prices in Pakistan surged due to international market gains.
- Gold settled at Rs241,300 per tola and Rs206,876 per 10 grams.
- Pakistani gold is currently Rs4,000 per tola cheaper than the global market.
According to data from the All-Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA), the price of gold (24 carats) in Pakistan surged by Rs1,900 per tola and Rs1,629 per 10 grams, settling at Rs241,300 and Rs206,876, respectively. This increase comes after gold prices in Pakistan hit an all-time high of Rs 252,200 per tola on April 20, 2024.
Despite the recent rise, the association noted that gold prices in Pakistan are Rs4,000 per tola “undercost” compared to the international market, indicating that the domestic gold market is currently cheaper than the global market.
Gold, often considered a hedge against inflation, registered losses in the local market recently due to stronger-than-expected inflation data, which reached its lowest level since May 2022. This data reduced expectations of a rate cut, and a steady monetary policy dampened investor enthusiasm.
Internationally, gold prices also saw an increase of $15 per ounce, settling at $2,307. The bullion price in the global market reached a record high of $2,431.29 on April 12.
In contrast, silver prices in the domestic market remained unchanged at Rs 2,750 per tola and Rs 2,357.68 per 10 grams.
The APSGJA announces gold prices in Pakistan for local markets six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. Pakistan, a small player in the global gold market, meets its demand through imports, as it does not produce gold locally. Consequently, the gold rate in Pakistan is influenced by global market prices, the rupee-dollar exchange rate, and domestic demand and supply.

Gold prices in Pakistan have been volatile recently due to ongoing political and economic uncertainty and high inflation. In such times, people prefer to buy gold as a safe investment and hedge against economic instability.
This recent increase in gold prices offers some relief to investors and consumers alike, who continue to navigate through a period of economic challenges and market fluctuations.
